45 Ideas for a Fun Stay-cation

Sometimes traveling around the world, the country or even the local city is not plausible. Whatever your reason may be for staying home, I’ve come up with 45 ideas for a fun stay-cation.

  1. Read that book you’ve been meaning to get to. We all have books sitting on our bookshelves or downloaded on our phones. Now’s the time to finally read it!
  2. Try a new recipe. Often times trying a new recipe takes time and extra effort that we don’t always have. A stay-cation gives the perfect opportunity to try to make a new dish.
  3. Watch a new movie. I don’t know about you, but I usually have at least 3 movies on my watchlist just waiting to be watched.
  4. Binge-watch your favorite TV show. We all have that one show that we can watch over and over.
  5. Learn a new hobby. Learning new hobbies take time and when you’re staying at home, you have the perfect time to learn something new. Some ideas include juggling, singing, sewing, crocheting, calligraphy, photography, and more!
  6. Build a fort. This may seem like a childish thing to do, but you’d be surprised at how fun it is.
  7. Work on DIY projects. DIY projects are so fun! These can be physical or digital projects!
  8. Finish home renovations. We all have these half-finished projects just waiting to be completed. Take your time at home to finish them up!
  9. Try making decorations for your home. DIY home decorations are all the rage right now. Repurposing some old decorations or pieces from a thrift store is so easy to do. If you need some ideas, there are plenty of Pinterest and YouTube users to give you some inspiration. XO, Macenna is one of my favorite YouTubers that gives great tips and ideas on home DIY decor.
  10. Bake treats for your neighbors. Bake some fun treats for yourself and then bring some to your neighbor. Who can deny free treats?
  11. Clean out your closet. You can’t keep putting this one off. Clean out the old stuff you don’t and sell it, donate it, or repurpose it.
  12. Remake some of your favorite childhood pictures. Grab some of those old childhood pictures of you dressed up as your favorite princess or superhero and recreate it. You’ll be surprised how much fun you can have with this! Check out this website for some fun ones.
  13. Learn a fun dance. There are plenty of popular dances out there just waiting to be learned by you. If you’re not particularly great at picking up dances, look up a tutorial online.
  14. Write a book. Have a book idea you’ve been sitting on? Now’s you’re time to write it!
  15. Take an educational course. Ever heard of Udemy? They offer classes on loads of topics like marketing, web development, design, music, and more! These courses do cost money to take, but they can be very helpful for anyone seriously interested in learning a new skill. If you’re not interested in paying to take courses, there are plenty of YouTube tutorials on all topics for free.
  16. Act out a play. Enough said.
  17. Have a dance party. Turn on your favorite playlist and dance your heart out. No strobe lights required.
  18. Do some online shopping. Now that you’ve cleaned out your closet, you can fill it back up with new clothes *wink*
  19. Plan out a vacation for the future. Maybe you can’t travel now, but there’s nothing stopping you from planning a trip for the future!
  20. Make your own beauty products. There are a lot of DIY beauty product tutorials floating around on the internet. An easy and effective one to make is a sugar scrub. You can add whatever additional ingredients you want to it to make it your own.
  21. Hold a home photoshoot. You don’t need a fancy camera and studio lighting to have a good photo shoot.
  22. Repurpose some of your old clothes. If you have pieces of clothes that you don’t want to get rid of but don’t wear anymore, trying repurposing them. Withwendy is one of my favorite YouTubers that often repurposes and flips old clothes. She gives great tutorials for people on all levels of sewing and DIY-ing.
  23. Cook a fancy dinner. Take time one night to make a fancy dinner. Better pull out that crystal and silverware!
  24. Start a YouTube channel. I’ve referenced a couple of my favorite YouTubers, but why not become one yourself? If you have a unique skill or knowledge, it’s so easy to show it off on YouTube. Try it out. Risk-free. 🙂

  29. Watch a concert at home. While I can’t deny that physically being at a concert is so much better than watching one on TV, it can still be a lot of fun. Grab some glow sticks, turn out the lights, and enjoy!
  30. Work on a large puzzle. I’m sure it’s no surprise that large puzzles can take hours or even days to complete. Turn on some relaxing music and get a start on one!
